May 3, 2014 Asana & Splendor of Recognition by Kshemaraja, Part 1
May 31, 2014 Asana & Splendor of Recognition by Kshemaraja, Part 2
It just so happens that my friend Robin and her husband will be coming to visit Williamstown museums that weekend. Robin has been studying the text and notions behind the pratyabhijna for years, and I think we can convince her to join in on our discussion on Saturday, May 3.
Ksemaraja’s The Heart of Recognition (Pratyabhijnahrdayam) is an exquisite text of the Shaivite Tantric tradition that is beautifully accessible through contemplation. Its study provides insights into the workings of our own awareness that are fascinating as well as practical. The 20 verses of The Essence of the Heart of Recognition were composed over 1,000 years ago, but they still resonate like a powerhouse across time. Brilliant and concise, this Tantric text paints a portrait of life; not just any kind of life, but life as an extraordinary journey. As we engage with the text together, we will gain insights into our own creative capacities. Taking cues from the teachings, we will also learn to redirect our awareness away from things that contract us inside, towards subtle but potent and refreshing landscapes of refined understanding. It is suggested, but not required, that you acquire your own copy. Recommended translations: 1. The Splendor of Recognition, by Swami Shantananda; 2. The Doctrine of Recognition, by Jaideva Singh.
Investment $95/day or $180 for both sessions.
