Workshop Description:
All of nature, including ourselves, is made up of space, air, fire, water, and earth. This spectrum of elements combine to manifest each individual and the world that we experience through our senses. Think of the sun on your face, the earth under your feet, the sound of falling rain, the feeling of an airy breeze, the depths of space on a starry night.
Anusara Yoga articulates five main principles of alignment, and each of the five expresses one of the elements of nature. In this program, we cultivate the feeling of each element in our yoga asana and pranayama practices. We systematically describe each alignment principle, so that the mind understands. We discover words for how the elements of nature feel as they express in our human body and mind. Then we use the practice of journaling to coalesce and give language to this new and deepening experience.
Through these practices and understandings, we delve beneath our surface experience into the textures of each element operating within us. Interacting together, all five elements manifest our body and mind in the extraordinary dance of life. By exploring these dynamics with increasing familiarity, we grow in our capacity to participate in this dance with ever greater skill, ease, and joy.
